Today on the blog I’m sharing all of the FAQs you may have when scheduling your newborn session. I have a lot of tips and tricks to help your newborn session go as smoothly as possible. Because they are only so small, for such a little amount of time, it’s so important to capture those memories.
FAQ: Newborn Photos – Scheduling. The best time to schedule a newborn session is between one to fourteen days after your little babe is born. This timing is best because they are still nice and sleepy most of the day, so it makes it easier for me to get all of the cute poses. Also, it is important to note that newborn photos are very time-consuming and can take up to four hours (between all of the feedings, diaper changes, and fussiness.)
One of the most important things is to bring them hungry. That may sound counterintuitive, but that way you can feed them right before the photos start, that way they will hopefully be full and ready to sleep the whole time. Sometimes babies will cluster feed during the photos, because of all of the movement and different poses, so just another thing to be prepared for.
FAQ: Newborn Photos – Props. I provide all of the wraps and props that you see in most of my newborn photos. But, if there is something sentimental to you or your family, that you would like photographed during the session, feel free to bring those with you! Since I am capturing your precious little one, I want to make these photos as special as possible. If you have inspiration photos, I would love it if you sent them to me before our session. Also, if you are wanting a specific prop you see in an inspiration photo, and you’re wondering if I already have it, just message me and ask! If you send me the prop and I don’t already have it, I would love to order it for our session.
I always recommend doing newborn sessions in my studio. It is a climate-controlled area, plus I have access to all of my lights, props, backdrops, etc. My studio is located upstairs, so strollers need to be parked and folded at the bottom of the stairs by the entryway. If you need help carrying anything up the stairs, you can always message me when you arrive and I would love to help you!
We offer two types of newborn sessions, photos with just baby or family newborn photos. Family newborn photos are our newest style of a session where we do photos of mom, dad, baby, and siblings if there are any. Then we can add some photos of just the baby after the family photos. Because the newborn photos can take up to four hours, if you have little siblings that tag along and get bored and irritated, I do offer a TV, snacks, beverages. There is also an ice cream shop right next to the studio. If dad and siblings don’t want to stick around after family photos, they can also drive separately.
