I often get asked the question of how I became an event planner and I never am quite sure how to answer that because my journey is quite unique. I spent many years in school and training to become a Detective. I am currently a Detective with a local law enforcement agency. When I tell people this their response is always “well that’s two very different jobs”. Truth be told they are actually very similar. Both Event Planning and Detectives have to think out side of the box, problem solve, be organized, be a people person, handle difficult situations, serve people, and tell a story. I think my job as a Detective helps me in my Event Planning business because through my public service journey I have made trusting relationships with many vendors already.
I have always had a desire for planning events for as long as I can remember. Before officially becoming an event planner, I planned countless themed parties, holiday gatherings, special occasion celebrations, and weddings. Family and friends would always tell me that I should make it a career; but, that was before I even knew event planners were a thing and way before Pinterest ever existed. It wasn’t until I planned my very own wedding that I knew I missed my calling. I loved researching and booking vendors, picking out details, and talking about weddings to practically everyone. After my wedding was over, I felt like I was missing something. I no longer had a creative outlet. Once again my friends and family told me I needed to pursue a career in event planning and I did this time.
The next question I always get asked is “Why do I love event planning?” uhh.. I get to plan parties! No explanation needed!! There are so many reasons! I love the people. The best part of the job is the connections I make with the clients. We get so close during the planning that I always cry on their wedding day just like I would for a close friend of family member. It always makes me sad when the event is over. My favorite part about event planning is that I help make dreams come true. The day is all about telling their love story. I just love the reaction of the bride and groom seeing all the months of planning the details come together. I also love all of the little hidden surprises! It is the details that matter and I love taking care of the details like making sure the escort cards are perfect on the table, lighting the candles, making sure that everyone knows where they are supposed to be at any given time. I love being surrounded by love. As cliché as it sounds, there is so much love filled in one room at a wedding. The love you see on the faces of the bride and groom. The love you see each guest pouring onto the couple. It’s a very beautiful thing to be apart of. Especially when in my other profession, I see a lot of negativity. I have the perfect balance.
Why do you need an event planner? Planning an event is fun and exciting, but it can definitely be stressful between decision making and booking appointments. You need an event planner to do all of the dirty work for you so you can focus on the fun parts of planning. As an event planner, I do all of the not so fun stuff like finding out pricing for rentals, or getting vendors to respond to you, or figuring out your wedding timeline, overseeing set up and clean up on your special day. I make sure your linens are sharp, you have a contingency weather plan, distracting overbearing family members, and most importantly you relax and be in the moment on your day.
A little bit about me… I am happily married to the love of my life and have one fur baby named Jax. I love all dogs! I actually had two weddings! I was married in October 2018 at Disney World on the television show Disney Fairy Tale Weddings (Season 1, Episode 9). We had a private wedding celebration months later in Amelia Island. I am a HUGE Disney nerd. That is usually where you will find me when I have a free day. I am a Christ Follower. I teach first graders about Jesus every Sunday at my church. I live in Amelia Island and absolutely love it! I wouldn’t have it any other way!
