How to prepare for your upcoming newborn session. A few things have changed for Brittany Powell Photography since the last time I shared the newborn FAQ blog post, so I wanted to do an updated one for all upcoming clients. This post is specifically to (hopefully) make your newborn session go as smoothly as possible. As I shared before, your little one(s) are only so tiny for such a short time, so we want to capture them perfectly!
The best time to schedule a newborn session is five to twenty days after your little babe is born. This timing is best because they are still nice and sleepy most of the day, making it easier for me to get all the cute poses. Also, it is essential to note that newborn photos are very time-consuming and can take up to four hours (between all the feedings, diaper changes, and fussiness.) If you are looking to get on the books, as we only take 10 newborn clients a month, simply click that book now tab on our website and select your due date or any random date in the month you are due. Then when the baby arrives just text me and then we will set up an official date for your newborn session. Don’t wait to book!
One of the most important things is to try to bring them hungry. That may sound counterintuitive, but you can feed them right before the photos start, and they will hopefully be full and ready to sleep the whole time. Sometimes babies will cluster feed during the photos because of the movement and different poses, so just another thing to be prepared for.
I provide all the wraps and props you see in most of my newborn photos. But if there is something sentimental to you or your family that you would like photographed during the session, feel free to bring those with you! Since I am capturing your precious little one, I want to make these photos as memorable as possible. If you have inspiration photos, I would love it if you sent them to me before our session. Also, if you are wanting a specific prop, you see in an inspiration photo and you’re wondering if I already have it, message me and ask! If you send me the prop and I don’t already have it, I would love to order it for our session. Just please let us know ahead of time. Sometimes shipping can take 8-10 weeks.
Right now I am working out of my home as our studio is under construction and being built. In between or before your session everything is sanitized, washed, and floors are steamed sanitezed cleaned to make sure no nasty germs are left on any surfaces. I always recommend doing newborn sessions in my in-home studio (photos below). It is a climate-controlled area; I have access to all of my lights, props, backdrops, etc, but we will travel to you for an additional fee depending on location with limited wraps and props.
We offer several newborn packages, please make sure to check out our book now page to view all of our newborn packages. If you have any questions about any of the packages or to see which one fits best for your family please feel free to reach out.
If you are expecting a newborn, I’d love to work with you! You can check out all of my packages and pricing here. You can also check out more of my work in past blog posts or by following me on Instagram @BPowell_Photo.
